Reiki Energy Healing

What is Reiki?

Reiki Is a Japanese relaxation technique. This energy healing is a form of complementary health care practices, which have been found to enhance the body's ability to heal itself physically, mentally, and spiritually. There are 12 major energy pathways or channels within the body called meridians. They run from the top of the head, through the fingers, and down through the toes. Meridians carry the "life force energy" also known as Ki (chi) throughout the body. Reiki increases the amount of Ki flow through the meridians and helps the energy flow smoothly within the body.

What Reiki is not...

Your practitioner is not a licensed physician, and Reiki does not require licensing by the state. They are meant to be a complement to "healing arts services licensed by the state", i.e., they are complement to traditiional Western medicine privided by doctors, nurses, and other licensed medical professionals. Though Reiki is not a substitute for physical or mental illnesses, it can work to help in the healing process. Any concerns should be discussed with a licensed physician.

Theory of Treatment

Stress, trauma, and illness restrict the natural flow of ki (chi) or "life force energy" through the body. By restoring the flow of life force energy through the body, Reiki rejuvenates the body's ability to relax and therefore, supports the body's ability to heal itself. Although one session may be adequate for short-term relaxation, long-term imbalances or maintenance in the body requires multiple treatments in order to allow the body to reach the level of relaxation to bring the system back into balance. Improvement often requires commitment on the client's part (e.g., willingness to make lifestyle changes) in order to fully benefit from Reiki treatments.

Nature of the Services

Provided during a Reiki session, the client is asked to lie down on their back. He/She remains fully clothed during the session. The majority of the session will involve the practitioner holding their hands about 2-3 inches above the client's body. If guided to do so, the practitioner will ask permission to place their hands on your body but only in a manner acceptable to you and within the legal limits of their practice as a Reiki Practitioner. Once the session begins, the practitioner allows the life force energy flow through their hands, which may be experienced by the client as heat, coolness, vibrating, tingling, a light pressure, a slight pulling sensation, or nothing at all. The practitioner may also use other hands-off techniques, such as sweeping the body of unneeded energy or using vocal  tones to break up the energy blocks. The practitioner is simply a conduit or channel of the life force energy. It is believed that the energy is guided by God/Source/Spirit for the physical, mental, emotional, and/or spiritual well-being of the client. Therefore, a specific outcome cannot be guaranteed by the Reiki practitioner.

Stress or Depression: The science of why Reiki works is that it relieves stress and depression. Reiki is a relaxation technique. Once the body is more relaxed, it naturally releases blockages and restores positive energy. Stress causes so many negative impacts on our lives. Imagine what life would be like with less stress.

Life Path: Sometimes in life we acquire road blocks. This could lead to feeling stuck, off balanced, or lost. Reiki helps clear blockages. It's important to know that no matter what choices we have made in life, we can always make new choices. By exploring our life's scripts, connecting with our soul group, and opening ourselves to universal energy, we can get back on track.

Raising Vibration: As you continue on your path to spiritual enlightenment, you're naturally raising your vibration. When our vibration is higher, we feel more positive, our immunity builds stronger, and lower vibrations bounce off our aura easier. This also helps you become more in sync with the universe and you feel more spiritually connected. For this healing, we use the power of sound, read more with my blog The Power of Sound and Frequency Healing.

Chakra Healing: During this healing, each chakra is checked for any imbalances. If your chakras are imbalanced your physical and mental health may be impacted. Then each chakra is cleansed, balanced, and empowered. This realigns your energy to better enhance your overall well-being. During the session, you receive a chart the identifies the health of your chakra, gets your vibrations, and even where sources of blockages come from.

Connecting to the Other Side: The universe is always offering us support, healing, and guidance. Connecting to source energies like God, angels, guides, and deceased loved ones can be extremely healing and powerful. Everyone connects in their own way, but many times we just need a little help facilitating their presence.

Past Healing: Whether it's in this life time or a past one, it benefits us to move on from past issues that no longer serve us. These could originate from old traumas, pattern, or even past life events that store cellular memory. To heal this, Reiki is sent directly to that moment. Once healed, we are able to move freely and handle present situations without being haunted by the past.

Energy Cord Cutting: Cords are energy exchanges between people, places, and events. There are positive and negative cords and everyone has them. We often develop a build-up of cords that need to be released. Otherwise, it can leave us feeling drained, violating boundaries, or difficulties from moving on from the past. Cord cutting doesn't affect relationships, it just helps you separate your energy from others. To learn more read my blog Letting Go with Energy Cord Cutting.

Overcoming Grief: So much of our depression steams from grief. It can come out as anger, blame, denial, resentment (etc.). In order to heal we must work through our grief. Learn to sit with these emotions rather than suppress them. Then we can move into understanding, acceptance, and hope.

Immune System: when we are stressed our auras can become weak, crack, or have holes. This opens the energy field to lower vibrations and weakens the immune system. Reiki strengthens the aura and increases vibrational rate, which helps lower vibrations bounce off the aura, making us less effected by our environment.

Manifesting: In order to allow positive things into our lives we must match that vibration. First, we must let go of any limitations we have in place that might be holding us back. Then learn to utilize "Laws of Attraction" to allow positive things into our lives. To learn more ways to manifest read my blog 21-Days to More Gatitude in Your Attitude.

Balancing Karma: Karma is the universal law of cause and effect. It doesn't reward nor punish; it simply balances universal energy. It can be passed on from experiences, persons, or even reincarnation. By better understanding our past, we can shape our future and erase our karmic imbalances.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Do I need to do anything to prepare for a Reiki session?

A: To get the most out of each session you should take some time to reflect on what you wish to accomplish. I’m sure you may have many areas of concern but it’s best to have one or two manageable goals. Many clients seek out Reiki to help with things like anxiety, depression, or relaxation but these are long-term goals that require many sessions. We’ll have a little time to address some of your concerns before the session but the more we talk the less time we’ll have for the healing. Some practitioners do require their clients to do ritual prep so their aura is already cleared, but I don’t require that because I’ll take care of that for you.

Q: What should I wear?

A: Clients should come in comfortable clothes, perhaps dress in layers since some clients experience things like hot or cold waves. A light blanket is provided. Please avoid perfume, sage, or other strong fragrances. You will be asked to remove shoes but feel free to leave on any jewelry or crystals. I discourage short dresses or skirts since you have to get on and off the massage table but that’s really up to you. Feel free to not wear make-up since it will just be you and I. Some clients can become emotional and tears are always welcome.

Q: What can I expect during a Reiki session?

A: It’s very common for new clients to feel nervous or anxious before a session. It often helps to treat the session just like getting a massage. Since every session is unique, I can’t predict what you’ll go through. Some people feel more physical sensations, others feel emotional, and some people don’t experience much at all. Most people feel a settle vibration running through the body. It’s important to know that whatever you experience is exactly what you need.

Q: What can I expect after a Reiki session?

A: Each session is unique so it’s hard to determine what you’ll experience. Most clients feel lighter and more relaxed. Some clients do go through an energy cleanse. This could be felt physically like body aches, head pressure, or cold like symptoms. Some people experience more emotional effects like waves of emotions or random crying. This is normal, it’s your body releasing toxins. Most cleanses are just the first session and only last a few days. I encourage you to drink plenty of water for a few days after a session to flush out the toxins. If you do experience a cleanse, I encourage you to read more in my blog, What to Expect After a Reiki Session.

Q: How often should I have a Reiki session?

A: How often you benefit from my services is completely up to you. One session may be adequate for short-term relaxation but long-term imbalances in the body requires multiple treatments in order to reach the level necessary to bring the nervous system back into balance. At first, the energy might not hold very long; but over time your body holds on to the energy for longer periods of time. I usually recommend a follow up session after 1-2 weeks so I may check to see how well your body is holding the energy and identify areas that you might be storing stress. Eventually, we start to space out the sessions longer. Most of my regular clients come in about once a month.

Q: Is it appropriate to tip?

A: Gratuity is always appreciated but never implied. I think of my practice like any other business that provides a service. Most people tip between 15%-25% per session. I know most people don’t carry cash on them. I do except any forms of payment like card, Venmo, and Zelle.
